The General section displays information about your MetaTraffic installation. It is divided into 4 sections: system, maintenance, logging and other.

The system section displays the MetaTraffic version, the script version and the install date.

The maintenance section shows displays the date of when a maintenance function was performed including definitions update, countries update, database compact and repair, log deletion and robot log deletion.

The logging section displays information about the logging records including how many records and the start and end date if the log or robot log tables are not empty.

The other section displays the number of users configured in the program.

The configuration page allows you configure several different settings in MetaTraffic.

• Site Name: The name of your web site that MetaTraffic is tracking.
• Site Url: The base url for your web site without a trailing slash. Example: http://www.metasun.com
• Enable Log: This Enables or disables logging on your web site.
• IP Exclude: Enables you to specify IP addresses that you do not want MetaTraffic to log. IP addresses should be entered one per line. Wildcards can be used by replacing a portion of the IP address with an asterix. Examples: 192.168.5.10, 192.168.5.*, 10.0.*.*
• Querystring Filter: This allows you to remove querystring variables from urls when logging. Example: Entering "sessionid" in this box (without quotes) would remove all querystring variables that were like sessionid=230942334324. This is a way of "cleaning your urls" that contain unwanted data in the querystring portion of the url. Querystring filters must be entered one per line.
• Default Doc: This specifies the default document to be applied when no document is specified in the url. For urls that don't explicitly define a default document and end in a "/", this will be added to the end of the url. This setting is only used with pages that are being logged with the javascript logging method. Example: default.htm
• Querystring Name: This is used for tracking campaigns. Querystring Name sets the variable name for building URLS with your campaign codes. This only needs to be changed if you are using the default (mtc) for something else on your dynamic web site. Example: mtc
• Site Aliases: Hosts specified here will be removed from referrer reports. Hosts must be entered one per line. Example: www.metasun.com, metasun.com, 192.168.5.52
• Session Duration: This setting determines how long in minutes a visitor is considered active and displayed in the who's online report. Example: 60
• Show Graph: Enables or disables display of the simple graph on most reports.
• Truncate Urls: This will truncate urls in the referrer reports that are very long in order to make the report more readable.
• Short Date Format: This specifies the date format for the start and end dates in the reporting period selection and also in the daily reports. Here are the allowed tokens: dd = numerical day, ddd = abbreviated day name, dddd = full day name, mm = numerical month, mmm = abbreviated month name, mmmm = full month name, yy = short year, yyyy = long year. Example: mm/dd/yyyy
• Long Date Format: This specifies the date format used in the report header. The same tokens apply as specified above. Example: mmmm dd, yyyy
• Time Offset: This setting allows you to offset the server time by up to 23 hours forward or backward. After altering this setting, the date/time will be modified by the number of hours specified. This setting changes the date and time logged when a web page is tracked. This setting will not affect the date/time on historic data.

The users section allows you to add, delete and edit users that can access MetaTraffic. Admin specifies whether the user can access the settings section or not. Usernames must be unique and 20 characters or less. A user can have a blank password but the password must not be greater than 20 characters.

The campaigns section allows you to add, delete and edit your ad campaigns. You do not have to add a new campaign to track it, but doing so allows you to generate code using the Tracking section and also displays the friendly name of the campaign in your reports (rather than just the campaign code).

Actions are specific transactions that you encourage site visitors to accomplish such as signing up for a newsletter, buying something from your online store, downloading a trial version of your software, etc. Actions can be correlated to advertising campaigns to see what campaign is generating specific transactions on your web site, how much in sales it has generated, etc.

Actions cannot be deleted once setup, however you can edit them or remove them from being displayed in reports.

The maintenance section allows you to perform several common maintenance functions on your MetaTraffic installation:

• Update Definitions: When logging traffic, MetaTraffic uses definitions to detect various things about a visitor including what type of browser they have, operating system, etc.
• Update Country Data: Country data maps IP addresses to the country of origin. This is used for several different reports displaying specific country information.
• Compact / Repair Database: This will optimize your MS Access database and shrink it to its smallest possible size. It is a good idea to do this periodically. You must have delete permissions on the database for this to work. You should always disable logging in the configuration section when performing this maintenance function. (MS Access only)
• Delete Statistics: This will delete statistics for the specified date range. It is not recommended that you ever delete statistics for the current day as it can cause problems in reports.
• Delete Robot Statistics: This will delete robot statistics for a specified date range.
